Istanbul blast fiancee alive
The Turkish fiancee of Graham Carter, a British tourist injured in the Istanbul suicide bombings, is alive and in hospital, allaying fears she too had died in the blast.
Hulya Donmez was thought to have died in the bomb blast at the British Consulate in Istanbul, which killed over two dozen people and injured over four hundred.
Consul General Roger Short and personal assistant Lisa Hallworth died in the blast.
Ms Donmez is in hospital but in a coma.
34-year old Mr Carter, from Heckington, near Sleaford, Lincolnshire, is being treated in Istanbul’s American Hospital for eye injuries but is said to be in a stable condition, though he was likely to suffer from “psychological trauma.”
The couple travelled to the consulate on Thursday morning to obtain a visa so they could marry in Britain.
The couple reportedly fell in love when Mr Carter first went on holiday in Turkey two years ago.
Mr Carter told the Sun newspaper: “I was at the consulate gatehouse when I saw this lorry speed through the gates. She was gone right in front of me.”
He said he saw her “just go to pieces” as the explosion went off.
