Charles consults on plans to scotch rumours
Prince Charles has reportedly called a summit at Highgrove to discuss rumours that he was involved in a compromising incident with a servant.
Prince William and Camilla Parker Bowles joined the heir to the throne for dinner at his Gloucestershire home, where they discussed a strategy to dispel the gossip.
Some papers have reported that the Prince plans to make a statement on television strenuously denying the rumours. However, Clarence House has denied that there were any plans for a television appearance.
Prince Charles is also believed to be calling an emergency meeting of his senior advisors before settling on a course of action.
It has also been reported that Prince Charles’ private secretary Sir Michael Peat once questioned his sexuality.
The Prince’s former key aide, Mark Bolland, told the News of the World: “I was astonished at Sir Michael’s question.”
He added: “I told him that the Prince was emphatically not gay or bisexual.”
The Prince flew back to Britain on Sunday after an official visit to India and Oman.
The original allegations about the Prince and a former servant were not printed after his former senior aide Michael Fawcett sought an injunction against The Mail on Sunday.
However, The Guardian was granted permission to publish Mr Fawcett’s name in relation to his obtaining the injunction last week.
Though the British press have been unable to print stories relating to the allegations, many newspapers abroad have printed lurid accounts of the alleged incident.
