Boy remanded over school stabbing
A 15-year-old boy has been remanded in custody charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of schoolboy Luke Walmsley, 14.
Luke died on Tuesday from a single stab wound to the heart following an altercation in the corridor between classes at Birkbeck School in North Somercotes, near Louth, Lincolnshire.
The boy accused of his murder cannot be named for legal reasons.
He appeared before Skegness Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
He had been held at Skegness police station since Tuesday morning and was charged on Wednesday night.
Birkbeck School reopens for a fellowship day today, offering counselling to students and teachers shocked by Luke’s tragic death.
Classes are not expected to begin again until Monday.
In a statement to the media on Wednesday, Luke’s mother Jayne Walmsley said: “Yesterday, I woke up with two children, but today I have only one.”
She added: “Our family has been ripped apart and will never be the same again.”
