Charles out of favour
Prince William is the nation’s favourite royal, according to a new poll.
Respondents in Sunday’s ICM poll said William showed a better example of how to live than either heir apparent Prince Charles or Her Majesty the Queen.
Asked which royal set the best example, eighty-eight per cent of respondents in the random sample of 16-24 year-olds said Prince William was a better role model.
The Queen came second with 69 per cent. Prince Harry and the Princess Royal were one point behind on 68 per cent but the Prince of Wales was down at 55 per cent.
More than a quarter said there would be no monarchy in 10 years. Over half thought there would be a monarchy in 50 years.
Only 10 per cent said royalty was important, while 82 per cent said the royals were over-privileged.
Ninety-three per cent said royal family members should earn a living.
A separate poll in the Mail on Sunday highlighted the public disquiet over the proposed wedding between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.
Only 44 per cent thought the two should marry, down from 57 per cent a year ago.
