Helicopter shot down in Iraq
A US Chinook helicopter carrying at least 32 people has been shot down in Iraq.
The US Army reports 13 soldiers were killed with at least 20 others injured.
Two CH-47 Chinooks helicopters were on their way from a US military base to Baghdad International Airport when one was downed near the town of Falluja, 32 miles west of Baghdad, the site of intense resistance to the US-led occupation.
An “unknown weapon” was fired at the helicopter, according to US officials, but local Iraqis are saying it was hit by one of a barrage of surface-to-air missiles.
Eight days ago, a US Black Hawk helicopter crashed near the northern town of Tikrit, after being hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
The news comes a day after two US soldiers were killed in an explosion near the northern city of Mosul on Saturday.
