Millionaire major convicted of insurance fraud
The former army major convicted of cheating his way to £1 million on ITV1’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has been found guilty of insurance fraud.
A jury at Bournemouth Crown Court found Ingram guilty on two counts of deception.
The 40-year-old from Easterton, Wiltshire, was cleared of a further five charges. He denied all charges against him.
Ingram was found guilty of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception against Direct Line Insurance by falsely stating that he had made no insurance claims in the three years prior to taking a policy out in July 2001.
He was also found guilty of making a claim on the falsely obtained policy for £30,000 for a burglary at his home in August 2001.
The judge adjourned the case for sentencing until November 21st and Ingram was released on conditional bail.
Ingram was convicted in April of using a complex system of coughs from lecturer accomplice Tecwen Whittock to signal the answers to the £1 million jackpot in the ITV1 quiz show. Ingram and his wife Diana and Whittock were all found guilty of attempting to defraud the programme.
