Cot death risk for overheated babies
A new survey has found that parents are putting their babies at risk by making them too hot.
A survey by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths found that 56 per cent of parents did not know the correct room temperature for their baby.
It is recommended that babies’ rooms are kept within the range of 16-20C (61-68 F). However only a third of families kept room thermometers in the room where their baby sleeps.
The survey also found that four out of ten parents thought their home was cooler than it actually was. While only one in five parents were able to correctly guess the temperature within 2C.
It is thought that babies who get too hot when they are asleep have a much higher risk of cot death or sudden infant death syndrome.
