BT announces high-speed broadband launch
BT has confirmed that its faster high-speed internet service will be launched on November 20th.
Following successful trials of the 1Mbps service, about 50 net providers have signed-up to offer faster broadband to customers.
The new IPStream 1000 ADSL broadband service will be available to most broadband customers for a one-off upgrade fee of around £35, with connection fees set at around £50.
More than 80 per cent of the UK can get ADSL broadband, but some users will miss out on the new faster IPStream 1000 service because they are out of range.
Some firms, such as NTL and Telewest, already offer a 1Mbps connection, but they reach only 40 per cent of the population.
Bruce Stanford, director of products, BT Wholesale Markets, said, ‘We’ve had more than 4,000 orders in less than three weeks from more than 50 ISPs, which is well ahead of expectations and has helped us move swiftly to a full launch.’
