Israel launches multiple air raids in Gaza
At least ten people have been killed and 100 injured after Israel’s military launched five air raids in central Gaza.
In the most recent assault, late Monday night, Israeli helicopters fired at least two missiles at the Boureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
The attack carries on from separate raids earlier in the day that killed two Hamas militants and a bystander.
Israel retaliated after Palestinians fired eight homemade rockets from Gaza into Israel on Sunday.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon renewed his call for the immediate “removal” of Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat.
He said: “[Mr Arafat] is the biggest obstacle to peace and therefore Israel is determined to bring about his removal from the political arena.”
In a major raid, seven people were killed and at least 70 wounded in a missile attack on the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
One of the dead was a 12-year-old child, according to reports.
