Blaine released from voluntary confinement
New York illusionist David Blaine at 22:00BST last night emerged from his self-imposed solitary confinement.
He has spent 44 days suspended in a glass box next to London’s Tower Bridge, with apparently only one tube for water for sustenance and another for urinating.
The 30-year-old Blaine was cheered after he left his 7 feet-by-7 feet-by-3 feet temporary home. The unshaven, rather smelly New Yorker was promptly taken to hospital for examination and a good bath.
He has lost four stone in weight since the start of his campaign.

“This has been one of the most inspirational experiences of my life.
“I have learned more in that box than I have learned in years. I have learned how strong we are as human beings,” he said rather weakly.
Mr Blaine has had paint and rotten eggs thrown regularly at his Perspex box by passers-by since September the 5th. Women have bared their breasts, men their buttocks and some have mounted a campaign to keep him awake during the night by beating drums.
But Mr Blaine may have the last laugh after it emerged that he will gain more than £600,000 for the starvation stunt.
