Tube train derails
A Tube train carrying 76 people derailed last night at Hammersmith station.
Police said there were no injuries.
The Piccadilly line train remained upright despite rear carriage wheels coming off the track, British Transport Police confirmed.
The incident happened at 2125 BST as the eastbound train was travelling between Hammersmith and Baron’s Court stations.
Transport police have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident but have ruled out sabotage.
According to reports, the incident was caused by a gbroken rail.h
Passengers were rescued from the tunnel by emergency services and underground staff.
It is the second Tube derailment this year, following the Chancery Lane incident in January, which injured 32 people.
The Central Line was suspended for months after, frustrating commuters.
Engineers are working overnight to mend the track. As of 21:45BST, there were no services between Acton Town station and Hyde Park Corner station in both directions.
At least one passenger said the driver had refused to believe the train was derailed and had tried to move it into the station.
Daniel Slowe, from south London, said: “After we heard a jolt which was bigger than a normal jolt you get on the Underground, smoke filled the carriage and we saw sparks outside the train. I pulled the emergency lever and I could speak to the driver through a microphone.
“He said, ‘Can people stop pulling the alarms.’ He kept saying he was trying to get the train moving. When he tried to move the train there was a big crunching noise and the carriage was moving about a bit. Eventually he said there’s been a derailment.”
