Second arrest in ‘hotel rape’ case
A 27-year-old man has been arrested over the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl, Scotland Yard said on Thursday.
The arrest follows the arrest and release on bail of a 29-year-old man on Wednesday, in conjunction with the same incident.
A statement from Scotland Yard revealed that the man attended a Central London Police Station by appointment where he was arrested.
He remains in police custody.
Neither of the men arrested in the case so far are Premiership players, reportedly, though up to eight players are believed to have been involved in the alleged rape, which took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Knightsbridge.
Police have requested that the media refrain from publishing the names of any clubs or players suspected of being involved in the incident.
The investigation into the girl’s allegations is being carried out by Scotland Yard’s Operation Sapphire team, which handles sex crimes.
Scotland Yard refused to release any other details about the latest arrest, stating, “It would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this stage.”
The 29-year-old man issued a statement early on Thursday categorically denying any wrongdoing.
