Israeli gunship kills Hamas militant
An Israeli Apache helicopter gunship on Thursday killed a member of Hamas’ military wing, and injured at least three people in a missile strike in the Gaza Strip, witnesses reported.
The rocket killed Hamdi Kalkha, 23, at Khan Younis, a town on the border with Egypt.
The Izz al-Deen al-Qassam Brigades operative was riding a donkey cart at the time.
The area had been policed by Israeli jets for about half an hour before the attack, witnesses said.
Israeli military stepped up their reconnaissance of the area after the Izz al-Deen al-Qassam Brigades admitted to launching a homemade Qassam rocket on the southern Israeli town of Ashkelon.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has ordered his army to take “all necessary steps” against Palestinian militancy.
Hamas has rejected Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s call for a renewal of the truce with Israel.
