Poll shows Blair’s reputation falling
A poll in The Daily Telegraph has found that Tony Blair’s reputation for strong leadership has been heavily hit by the David Kelly affair.
The YouGov poll shows that the Tories have stretched their lead by three points after they overtook Labour for the first time last month.
The results also show that 61% of voters feel the Government has ‘lost control’ and is at the mercy of events, while 47% do not believe what Tony Blair says.
This news comes as it is being suggested that director of communications Alastair Campbell may quit over the death of the weapons expert Dr Kelly and the ‘dodgy dossier’ affair. However Downing Street have dismissed the claims as ‘rumours’.
The only good news for the Government in the poll is that 46% of voters think they have done a good job on the economy.
Mr Blair returned from his trip to the Far East yesterday and is believed to be having a series of talks with senior ministers about the doctor’s death.
