Passengers face 48-hour hell at Heathrow
Passengers at Heathrow Airport hoping to get a quick flight with British Airways may have to wait a while after the flag carrier admitted it could take two days to clear the backlog of flights caused by two unofficial strikes.
More than 360 services have been cancelled after disgruntled check-in staff downed tools.
The staff, miffed over proposed changes to working practices, have now returned to work but normal services will take some time before coming back online, the airline announced.
BA hopes it can deal speedily with the “vast majority” of Sunday’s flights.
BA said: “We are working as a matter of priority to return our flights to normal as quickly as possible.”
Passengers planning trips to Spain, France, Italy and Germany were hardest hit.
Passengers at Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh airports were similarly left stranded.
Long-haul flights in terminals three and four were also affected.
In total, about 80,000 travellers have been affected.
