ASLEF elects ‘moderate’ General Secretary
Members of the train driver union ASLEF have elected a new General Secretary.
The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) voted to elect Shaun Brady as General Secretary for the next five years.
Mr Brady replaces Mick Rix who had been in his position for five years. Mr Rix had called for the Prime Minister to be removed from office last week.
Mr Rix commented, ‘I have been proud to serve ASLEF members as their general secretary for the last five years, and I wish them and the union every success for the future. I hope that the same advances can be made in the next five years as have been in the last, and I will be cheering the union on from the sidelines.’
Mr Brady, a driver from Southwest Trains, is seen as a moderate figure in the union. He will take up his new duties from October 19th 2003.
