Tories to rebrand
The Tory party is set for a radical transformation of its image and branding.
The move initiated by leader Iain Duncan Smith wants to examine “every aspect” of how the party is conveyed to boost its appeal among voters.
The party name may be tweaked, though replacing Conservative with New Conservative has been ruled out.
It may also entail the jettisoning of the burning torch – the image dreamt up by Margaret Thatcher two decades ago.
Most image consultants think the image has passed its sell-by date.
Tory party bosses will meet advertising consultants Lord Maurice Saatchi and Lord Tim Bell next week to hammer out proposals.
Even the Conservatives’ trademark blue colour will be scrutinised in terms of its marketing effectiveness. Some suggest the Tories could go for a lighter shade.
“Fairness and hope” will guide the ad men in their task of rebranding the party.
