Tories leapfrog Labour
The Tories have leapfrogged the Government in the popularity stakes for the first time in over a decade, according to a YouGov opinion poll for the Daily Telegraph.
Iain Duncan Smith’s troops today enjoy a two-point lead over Labour, further compounding the woes of Tony Blair, who has found little cheer out of the “dodgy dossiers” episode and the continued absence of Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction.
According to YouGov, Mr. Blair’s controversial ending of the Lord Chancellor’s Department, introduced with the “botched” reform of his Cabinet, euro paralysis, and the threat of increased taxes, have turned voters away from the Labour administration.
The Tory party now enjoys 37 per cent of the vote, with Labour dropping to 35 per cent. The Liberal Democrats trail at 21 per cent.
YouGov found the PM’s own ratings had plummeted – with 63 per cent considering Mr. Blair not to be honest and trustworthy.
