Six British soldiers killed in Iraq
Six British soldiers have been killed in Iraq after coming under attack near the southern city of al-Amarah.
No further details of the incident have been released.
In a separate incident, a further UK eight troops were injured after coming under enemy fire today.
The MoD says that at least three people are in a critical condition after the attack, which involved a military helicopter.
The soldiers were from the 1st Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, based at Dover in Kent.
Both attacks occurred near the city of al-Amarah on the River Tigris, around 120 miles north of the city of Basra.
These are the first attacks on British troops since the war ended almost two months ago.
There have, however, been many attacks on US troops during that time.
