Iranian protester dies
An Iranian woman who set fire to herself out side the French embassy in London last Wednesday has died, police sources confirmed.
The woman, thought to be 25-year-old Neda Hassani, was protesting against the French government’s crackdown on Iranian dissident group, the People’s Mujahideen.
More than 150 members of the group were arrested in Paris after security services alleged that the armed opposition group was planning to carry out attacks on embassies throughout Europe.
The Metropolitan Police appealed at the weekend for protesters not to resort to such measures, after four people have now set themselves alight in the UK alone. Similar protests have taken place in the French capital.
The protests suggest growing support for groups opposing strict Islamic rule in Iran. In the past month there have been a series of anti-government protests by students in the capital, Teheran.
