The fallout from the Afghanistan crisis dominated parliamentary proceedings as Westminster returned from its summer break.

The prime minister updated the House on the Afghan resettlement scheme, before fielding questions from MPs, a number of whom are dealing with a huge influx of requests of Afghan nationals trying to get out of the country.
