The Ten Worst MPs on Twitter: 10 – Steve Brine
10) Steve Brine
Score: 14
Entertainment: 4
Information: 4
Regularity: 3
Constituency: 3
This is as good as a bad Twitter stream gets. If that sounds like damning with faint praise then that is precisely what it is. On the plus side, Brine does not auto-update, he seems to write the messages himself and he offers constituents a regularly updated account of his local work. Now for the bad part. He is unspeakably tedious. The activities he takes part in are dull and not worthy of note, even at the 'lets-talk-at-length-about-my-toothbrush' level Twitter works at. His opinions – such as they are – are so robotic and safe he would genuinely struggle to beat the Turing test. The fact Brine scores so highly is merely testament to the inadequacy of our marking system. He has tricked the machine.
