Labour: Serious immigration lapses at UKBA need fixing
Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper writes to Theresa May demanding answers after it emerged border controls were relaxed this summer:
"The public are understandably appalled and shocked at the reports of serious security and immigration lapses by the UK Border Agency over this summer.
"This is the most serious and pressing of a catalogue of failures on immigration and border enforcement over the last 18 months, from the six-fold increase in untraceable asylum applicants placed in the controlled archive to the handling of the Raed Salah case.
"The establishment of an independent inquiry is extremely important, as it is clear the two internal investigations instituted by the Home Office have not been sufficient."
