Salmond: Scottish people have trusted us
Scottish National party leader Alex Salmond comments on Holyrood election results and his party’s success:
“Scotland has outgrown negative campaigning. I hope after this result we’ll see an end to fearmongering, negativity and scaremongering in Scottish politics. No more insults to the intelligence of the Scottish people.
“It’s clear from the indications that we’ve had so far that it’s likely that the SNP have been restored trust by the people in a way no party ever has before in a Scottish election.
“We’ll take that mandate and that trust forward to increase the powers of our parliament. We need borrowing powers for the parliament… we need corporation tax control so that we’re competitive as our industry has to be.
“But just as the people have restored trust in us, we must trust the people as well. And that is why in this term of the parliament we shall bring forward a referendum and trust the people with Scotland’s own constitutional future.”
