Ottaway: Letter ‘reiteration’ of humanitarian mission
Richard Ottaway, chair of the foreign affairs committee, told the BBC there was no need to recall parliament:
“The legality of the whole mission is very important here and it’s important we comply with the UN resolution.
“I don’t think the letter by the prime minister, French president Nicolas Sarkozy and US president Barack Obama takes things any further; it is a reiteration.
“I disagree that there should be a recall of parliament.
“I think basically, essentially this is a humanitarian mission and it is protection of the civilian population which is top of the order book. I don’t think that has altered.
“I don’t see a change in policy, just a reiteration of where it was a month ago.”
