Fragomen LLP: Govt should now look to local labour market

David Crawford, partner at Fragomen LLP, commented on David Cameron’s immigration speech:

“The recent changes to non-EU skilled worker entry to the UK make it clear that business must first turn to the local labour market before relying upon migrants to fill positions.

“Any further tightening of the rules for non-EU workers, however, would send a negative message to business here and abroad about the ability to access necessary skill sets. It seems logical that the next step in public policy is to look to increasing local participation rates in the labour market.”
