Big Brother Watch: Govt ‘demonising’ smokers
Civil liberties campaigning group Big Brother Watch commented on government proposals to introduce plain packaging for tobacco products:
“This is an exceptionally disappointing decision.
“The coalition talks a good talk about ‘freedom’ – but this announcement confirms that nanny statism is alive and well in Westminster.
“Tobacco should not be treated as some kind of grubby contraband that needs to be traded outside the view of the general public.
“This is just the latest in a string of moves designed to demonise smokers, a group of people who voluntarily choose to consume a perfectly legal product.”
