Family Action: The vulnerable face govt ‘smash and grab’

Helen Dent, chief executive of family action, said in response to the publication of the welfare bill:

“The welfare reform bill is a smash and grab on the finances of low-income households in and out of work. The abolition of council tax and the question mark over its replacement will leave many people worried about how their finances will add up.

“For the vulnerable families we work with council tax benefit, the social fund and local housing allowance are a lifeline when times are tough due to mental health difficulties, unemployment or family crisis. Losing this help could break these families.”
