Flint: We cannot oppose everything
Caroline Flint makes her pitch to become a member of the shadow Cabinet, in a letter to MPs published on the LabourList blog:
“In the months ahead our party and leader face great challenges. We will need shadow Cabinet members ready to serve as part of a combative, thoughtful opposition.
“We must articulate our values, make clear choices and fight unfairness; but we must also be realistic that we cannot oppose everything, nor please every interest group.
“We have to expose their actions to forensic scrutiny and relentless challenge.
“We must support local parties in seats lost to the Lib Dems and Conservatives and reach out to provide reassurance that we are on the side of the hard-working majority.”
