IUSW: Nanny-state feminism
A spokesperson from International Union of Sex Workers (IUSW) comments to politics.co.uk on the sex ad ban in Job Centres:
“The DWP had an opportunity to send the message that those who work in adult entertainment deserve equal treatment and the same protection of the law as those in other industries.
“Instead, they have bowed to political pressure born of prudery and nanny-state feminism. It should not be the job of the DWP to make moral judgements on career choices.
“If it did, it could also come under pressure to refuse job ads for vacancies in laboratories where animal testing is carried out, in banking, or even the armed forces.
“One person’s job choice is another person’s no go area, but that should be for the individual to decide.
“If a job is safe and legal and the working conditions are acceptable, the DWP should be prepared to advertise it.
“This change does nothing to challenge bad pay, poor working conditions or limited opportunities, but singles out adult entertainment performers for unequal treatment and stigmatisation.”
