The full statement from shadow immigration minister Damian Green following the decision by the CPS he would not face charges.
“I am very pleased with the decision and I want to say thank you to the many thousands of people who have sent messages of support over the past few months during this extraordinary period.
“One of my jobs as shadow immigration minister is to expose the main failings of government immigration policy.
“That is precisely what I was doing and why ministers were so embarrassed.
“This led to the first arrest of an opposition politician since Britain became a democracy.
“There is no better symbol of an out of touch, authoritarian and failing government that has been in power for far too long.”
