Alberto Costa was first elected as the Conservative MP for South Leicestershire in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 24,004 over the Labour Party.
South Leicestershire is a safe Conservative seat, with the area, previously represented in Parliament by the former Conservative Chancellor, Nigel Lawson. Containing the town of Braunstone, the seat spreads out from the commuter districts to the south of Leicester into the rural Leicestershire countryside. Distribution plays an important part in the local economy.
Alberto Costa is currently the PPS to the Attorney General.
Born in 1971 to Italian parents, Costa grew up on the outskirts of Glasgow. He was later educated at the University of Glasgow.
He worked as a solicitor before being elected to Parliament. He is a Freeman of the City of London.
Costa supported Remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
He is the co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups for Access to Medical Cannabis under
Prescription, and Microplastics.
He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Fusion Energy, District Councils, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Dark Skies.
Costa is married with two children. According to the Register of Members Interests, his wife Dr Maria Costa, works as his part-time Office Manager.
