Olivia Blake is the Labour Party MP for Sheffield Hallam, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 712 over the Liberal Democrats.
Sheffield Hallam spreads out into the Peak District on the west of the City. This is the most affluent of Sheffield’s constituencies, and indeed is said to be the most affluent constituency outside of London and the south east of England. Unemployment is low, home ownership is higher, and average incomes are way above the national average. Although no campus is found in this seat, there is also a notable student vote here.
Held by the Conservatives between 1918 and 1997, the seat moved to the Lib Dems, before first turning to Labour in 2017. It was formerly represented in Parliament by the former Liberal Democrat Leader, Nick Clegg.
Blake currently serves as a Shadow Spokesperson on Climate Change and Net Zero.
In early 2022, Blake detailed in a Commons debate how she had previously been diagnosed with ADHD.
Born in 1990, Olivia Blake studied Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield. She worked for the NHS in Hallam and served as a Sheffield City Councillor for almost 6 years, before being elected to Parliament.
Blake is on the left of the Labour Party. An anti austerity campaigner, she is a member of the Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs and the group Momentum.
She is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Pension Inequality, Youth Affairs, ME, and ending the need for Food Banks.
