Danny Kruger is the Conservative Party MP for Devizes, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 23,993.
The Devizes constituency is found within the county of Wiltshire and covers the towns of Devizes, and Malborough, as well as a large part of Salisbury plain. Devizes has continually returned a Conservative MP since 1924.
Kruger was previously a PPS at the Department for Levelling Up but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born in 1974, Danny Kruger was educated at Eton College, Edinburgh University and Oxford University. Kruger’s mother is the famous TV chef, and Bake Off presenter, Prue Leith.
A one time speech writer for David Cameron, Kruger served as political secretary to Boris Johnson during the first four months of his premiership up until the 2019 General Election. Kruger was responsible for the phrase ‘hug a hoodie’ once used by David Cameron.
He serves as the co-chair of the New Conservatives group of socially conservative, right-wing Tory MPs alongside Miriam Cates.

He is on the record as supporting the UK leaving the European Convention on Human Rights.
Speaking to the Inside Whitehall podcast, which is hosted by fellow Conservative MP Jonathan Gullis and former government adviser James Starkie, Kruger said: “I don’t think we will ever get back into power, if we go out of power. And frankly, I think we’re going to struggle at the next without this as well”.
He added: “So I think the next election we win will be one in which we’re standing to leave the ECHR.”
A former journalist, Kruger was also once a leader writer for the Daily Telegraph.
Author of ‘Fraternity: Politics beyond Liberty and Equality’, he also once served as Director of Research, for the think tank, the Centre for Policy Studies.
With his wife, Emma, Kruger set up his own youth crime prevention charity called Only Connect in 2006. It works with those in prison or those recently released into the community. He is also a Trustee of Catch 22, a charity that works across the social welfare cycle.
In June 2021, Kruger was fined by Westminster Magistrates Court after it emerged that his young Jack Russel puppy, Pebble, had caused a stampede by chasing a herd of two hundred deer in London’s Richmond Park. Kruger admitted the charge of ‘causing or permitting an animal to chase or worry another animal in a Royal Park’.
Kruger is an evangelical Christian who has called for a return to Christian values.
Kruger is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Prescribed Drug Dependence. He is also a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on the Armed Services, Charities and Volunteering.
He supported Brexit in the 2016 referendum on EU membership.
Kruger is married with three children.
