Shaun Bailey is the Conservative MP for West Bromwich West, having first been elected to Parliament in December 2019, gaining the seat from Labour with a majority of 3,799.
He is not the same Shaun Bailey who stood for the Conservatives in 2021 in the London Mayoral elections.
Formerly a Labour stronghold, West Bromwich West covers the towns of Great Bridge, Oldbury, Princes End, Tipton, Tividale and Wednesbury. This area had been solidly represented by the Labour Party ever since the Second World War, but in a seismic change in this area, the Conservatives more than doubled their share of the vote here between 2015 and 2019. This seat was formerly represented at Westminster by the Commons Speaker, Betty Boothroyd.
Born in 1992, Shaun Bailey is one of the youngest Conservative MPs. He read law and French at Aberystwyth University and studied for a Masters in Legal Practice at the University of the West of England. He worked as a trainee solicitor and for a bank, before being elected to Parliament.
Bailey is reportedly a self taught welsh speaker, but grew up in the West Midlands in a single parent household. At Westminster he is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Black Country Economy.
