Justin Tomlinson was elected as Conservative Party MP for North Swindon in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 16,171.
The Swindon North constituency in Wiltshire contains a large part of the north of Swindon, but also the market town of Highworth and the parish of Blundson outside of Swindon itself. This is the safer of the two Swindon constituencies for the Conservatives, albeit it was nevertheless held by Labour between 1997 and 2010.
Tomlinson was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party in charge of campaigning in September 2021. He worked as Minister of State for Disabled People, Work and Health between 2019 and 2021, having previously served as Under Secretary of State for Family Support, Housing and Child Maintenance (2018-19), and Under Secretary for Disabled People (2015-2016).
Born in 1976, Tomlinson studied marketing at Oxford Brookes University. After university he became a manager at the Eros nightclub in Swindon. He then set up his own marketing business, TB Marketing, based in Stratton.
He was elected to Swindon Borough Council between 2000 and 2010.
Tomlinson voted for Britain to leave the European Union in the 2016 referendum. He backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party Leadership election.
Tomlinson is married with one child. He employs his wife as his Constituency Officer Manager.
When he was at university at Oxford Brookes university, Tomlinson apparently placed a £50 bet with William Hill, at odds of 10,000/1, that he would become Prime Minister within 40 years. He still has a few years left to make a return on the ticket, but it surely would create a bit of a furore should it ever materialise!
Tomlinson enjoys football. He supports Swindon Town and has played for the Parliamentary football team. He also enjoys video games.
