Mims Davies was first elected as the Conservative MP for Eastleigh in 2015, a post that she held between 2015 and 2019.
Having initially announced that she was standing down from Parliament to spend more time with her children, she was then selected as the Conservative candidate for her home town seat of Mid Sussex just before the 2019 General Election. She was reelected in 2019 with a majority of 15,607.
The constituency of Mid Sussex is found in the top right hand corner of West Sussex, and covers the commuter towns of East Grinstead, Haywards Heath, and Burgess Hill. It is close to Gatwick airport. Formerly represented in Parliament prior to 2019 by Winston Churchill’s grandson, Nicholas Soames, average incomes in Mid Sussex are well above the national average, and this remains a very safe Conservative seat.
Mimms Davies was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Work and Pensions in October 2022.
Davies had previously served as Under Secretary of State at the Home Office between September and October 2022. She served as Under Secretary of State for Employment between 2019 and July 2022, the point at which she resigned stating she no longer had confidence in the leadership of Boris Johnson.
She was formerly a junior Minister at the Department of Culture, the Welsh Office, and an assistant government whip.
Born in 1975, Mimms Davies studied politics at Swansea University, and once worked as a radio producer for the BBC. She also has worked in the events and communications sector with organisations including the Automobile Association and the Police.
Prior to her election to Parliament, she had served several terms as an elected councillor of Mid Sussex District Council for the Hayward Heath’s Lucastes ward.
Mimms Davies supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum. She backed Sajid Javid and then Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Davies lists her interests as 1980s music, pub quizzes and running. She has two children.
