Bardell, Hannah

Hannah Bardell was elected as the SNP MP for Livingston in 2015 being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 13,435.

The West Lothian constituency of Livingstone is found immediately to the west of Edinburgh itself, and contains the towns of West Calder and Livingston.  Once a Labour stronghold represented in Parliament by the Labour Foreign Secretary, Robin Cook, this seat has been held comfortably by the SNP since 2015.  The former Labour MP for this seat, Jim Devine, was jailed for false accounting in relation to his Parliamentary expenses.

Born in 1983, Bardell attended Broxburn Academy and the University of Stirling.

Bardell worked previously as a TV producer for GMTV, before becoming office manager for the former SNP Leader, Alex Salmond.  She also formerly worked in press relations for the US State Department in their Edinburgh Consulate.

Prior to becoming an MP she was Head of Communications & Marketing for the UK, Africa & Norway with the oil and gas service company, Stork.

In February 2022, Ms Bardell was stretchered off a French mountain with a dislocated knee following a skiing accident.

Hannah Bardell is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on United Nations Women; and Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women’s Football.   In 2018 she was one of a number of MPs from the parliamentary football team rebuked by Speaker Bercow for having a kick about in the Commons chamber, with Bardell herself showing some notable prowess in ‘keepie uppies’.

She also enjoys musical theatre and playing the guitar in her spare time.
