Colleen Fletcher was elected as the Labour MP for Coventry North East in 2015, being reelected with a majority of 7,692 in 2019.
The Coventry North East constituency is found in the far eastern corner of the West Midlands. It contains the Wyken, Longford, Foleshill, Waslgrave-on-Sowe, and Stoke areas of Coventry. This is an ethnically diverse constituency which has a notable number of both Muslim and Sikh voters. The seat has been a safe Labour stronghold since it was first created in 1974.
Colleen Fletcher currently serves as an Opposition Whip. She has said she plans to step down from Westminster at the next election.
Born in 1954, Colleen was educated at Coventry University and worked for GEC in Coventry, and as a Customer Services Officer with the Orbit Housing Group before being elected to Parliament. She served on Coventry City Council for 13 years after 19932.
Fletcher supported Jess Phillips in the 2020 Labour leadership election. She voted for Owen Smith in his 2016 challenge against Jeremy Corbyn, and for Yvette Cooper in the 2015 contest.
Before the 2015 election, Colleen was a member of the Labour National Policy Forum.
Colleen Fletcher is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Blood Cancer; Cancer; Homelessness; Mental Health; and Pancreatic Cancer.
