US pledges to punish culprits of Riyadh massacre
US President George W. Bush, in the wake of Monday night’s horrifying suicide bombings in Saudi Arabia, now believed to have killed at least 34 people, has vowed to capture and punish the perpetrators.
10 Americans are believed to have died following three co-ordinated terror attacks, which targeted foreigners living in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
A fourth explosion rocked Siyanco – a joint US-Saudi-owned company.
President Bush said: ‘These despicable acts were committed by killers whose only faith is hate and the United States will find the killers and they will learn the meaning of American justice.
‘The ruthless murder of American citizens and other citizens reminds us that the war on terror continues.’
Al Qaeda has been implicated in the bombings by the Arabic magazine Al-Majallah and US Secretary of State Colin Powell has said the attacks mirrored previous al Qaeda attacks.
Mike O’Brien, UK Foreign Office minister, confirmed that six Britons suffered injuries.
One Brit and one Irish citizen are believed to have been killed.
The Foreign Office (FCO) warned in a statement there is a high threat of further attacks, which may involve chemical and biological weapons.
President Bush for his part has said he wouldn’t be surprised if al Qaeda were the culprits.
The FCO also encouraged Britons to avoid ‘all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia.’
