Brits divided on euro embrace
A YouGov poll commissioned for Sky News has found mixed attitudes among Britons regarding the pound’s future.
Most Britons would vote against the euro at a referendum, YouGov found, but 49% of the 2,465 respondents who answered online between May 9-12 said they believed the UK would embrace the single currency before the end of the decade.
Around half of interviewees argued that the euro would inflict damage on Britain’s tender economy. 22% believed euro embrace would strengthen economic conditions.
Less than one in ten (8%) maintained that Britain ought to forever stay outside the single currency.
But a third of voters, 34%, want to join the single currency, the YouGov poll shows.
