Heathrow flights slowly returning to normal
British Airways flights from London Heathrow are slowly getting back to normal today, but travellers are still being affected by delays after a weekend of chaos caused by an unofficial strike.
Over 80,000 passengers were affected when 360 flights were cancelled after check in staff walked out. Most were unable to travel and faced ruined holidays or very long delays.
No cancellations are expected today, however delays are still being experienced and BA says that it will take a few days for services to settle down.
The walk out was provoked by management plans to introduce a new electronic system for checking staff in and out of work. There are concerns that it will lead to people being sent home during quiet times and union officials have warned that an official ballot over industrial action may be held.
The airline has dismissed these concerns and is hoping that talks with officials from the unions will lead to an agreement.
