A-levels set for further rethink

Students may have to wait until A-level results are published before applying to universities, the Government’s advisor on university admissions has argued, according to the Observer.

It is thought the radical plan outlined by Professor Steven Schwartz, vice-chancellor of Brunel University, and backed by Education Secretary Charles Clarke, would help more working class get into prestigious colleges and assist those applicants who, for one reason or another, are diffident about achieving high scores.

A report will come out in the autumn addressing the plans.

2003 A-level results will be published on Thursday. The Government there will be no repeat of last year’s grading fiasco.
