Train delays continue for many
After a holiday weekend of road and rail chaos caused by the closure of many major rail routes due to engineering works, commuters have been warned that it is not all over yet.
The London to Glasgow main line will remain closed between Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead until Sunday. And it is being predicted that the buses being laid on to replace the service will not be able to cope with the high level of passengers.
Silverlink trains have come up with a bizarre form of advice for affected passengers, suggesting that they take the opportunity to go on holiday to avoid the delays. A statement from the company reads: ‘Many commuters may prefer to arrange their holidays around this period to avoid what will inevitably be a difficult four days for commuting.’
Virgin trains from Manchester to London will also be replaced by buses this week.
Network Rail were strongly criticised for the high level of engineering works disrupting services over the weekend, however they defended the closures saying that it is more efficient and less painful for the work to be done over a holiday than during the week when the level of commuter traffic is far higher.
