Leeds suspend player over sex allegations

Leeds United have suspended midfielder Jody Morris and are conducting an internal investigation into sexual assault allegations.

Morris has been released on police bail pending further enquiries into allegations of a serious sexual assault against a 20-year-old woman on Monday in Collingham, near Leeds.

A statement from Leeds United said: “Leeds United AFC have had a meeting with Jody Morris and his solicitor this morning.

“In accordance with the standard provisions of the players’ contract of employment he has been suspended for up to 14 days to enable the club to conduct an internal investigation.”

Mr Morris was arrested at the club’s training ground at Thorp Arch, near Wetherby, on Tuesday.

A second man, who is not believed to be a footballer, has also been released on bail pending further enquiries into the assault allegations and a second player from the club is believed to have been questioned, but has not been arrested.

Forensic experts and police officers have been examining a lay-by on the main A58 Leeds to Wetherby Road.
