BA gains extra Heathrow landing slots
British Airways has purchased extra take-off slots at Heathrow Airport from a rival.
BA is expected to pay around 12 million pounds to United Airlines for the four prime slots on the route from London to New York.
BA now controls 41 per cent of slots at the airport.
Martin George, director of marketing and commercial development at BA, said consolidation among European airlines meant it was important for BA to have a strong position at Heathrow.
BA said it would be concentrating on business clients travelling early morning to the Big Apple.
BA said the “sleeper service” was being tested between Heathrow and New York, the aim of which is to give businessmen and women the chance to have up to six hours uninterrupted rest.
