RMT prepares for ‘go slow’
The Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has announced plans to ballot its members on industrial action over safety on the London Underground.
At a press conference in London this afternoon, the RMT said a ballot would be held on November 17th with results expected seven days later.
If members vote in favour of taking action, staff will operate a ‘go slow’ every day until London Underground responds.
The announcement follows two derailments on the Northern Line and Piccadilly Line, which have raised concerns about Tube safety.
Passengers have faced delays this week following the incidents with sections of the Northern Line remaining closed.
The two accidents came less than six months after the Central Line was suspended because of a major incident at Chancery Lane.
The RMT also said today that strike action would be considered if it was not satisfied with London Underground’s response to its safety concerns.
