Prince Charles signs Red Devils PR boss
The Prince of Wales yesterday secured the services of Paddy Harverson, PR boss at Manchester United, as his new communications secretary.
Mr Harverson is the first communications secretary ever to be employed by the heir to the throne. He will oversee media matters pertaining to Charles’s sons, William and Harry.
A new press secretary is also expected to be appointed, whose responsibilities will include the day-to-day running of the press office.
Patrick Harrison, assistant press secretary, will take on the role of acting press secretary.
Sir Michael Peat, the Prince’s Private Secretary, said: “I am delighted that Paddy will be joining us at Clarence House. All of us who have met him have been hugely impressed by his friendly and down to earth approach, and I am sure that he will fit in extremely well.
“He has excellent experience both as a journalist and as a communications strategist and he will further enhance our team.”
Mr Harverson said he was “very excited” at the prospect.
“I have enjoyed a wonderful three years at Manchester United and will be very sad to leave Old Trafford, but I am looking forward hugely to my new job and the challenges ahead.”
Mr Harverson will begin the new role in February next year. He replaces Colleen Harris who is moving to the Commission For Racial Equality.
Mr Harverson previously worked as a journalist for The Financial Times.
Paddy Harverson will start working at Clarence House in February.
