Huntley and Carr in court

Soham murder suspect Ian Huntley and his former girlfriend Maxine Carr appeared in court on Monday ahead of the start of their trial next week.

The parents of murder victims Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman attended the pre-trial hearing at the Old Bailey.

Details of the hearing cannot be reported for legal reasons.

The two ten-year-olds were killed after they went missing in Soham, Cambridgeshire, in August last year.

Huntley, 29, and his former girlfriend Carr, 26, will both return to the Old Bailey on Monday for the trial.

Former caretaker Huntley denies murdering the two schoolgirls. He admits perverting the course of justice by misleading police as to the whereabouts of Carr on August 4th and 5th last year.

Former teaching assistant Carr denies two charges of assisting an offender and a single charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Best friends Holly and Jessica went missing on August 4th 2002. Following a massive police hunt, their bodies were discovered in a woodland grave 15 miles from their homes on August 17th.

The trial is expected to last up to three months.
