Iran meets UN deadline
The United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency said on Friday that Iran had met its weapons disclosure deadline.
But questions remained.
The IAEA had set October 31st as the deadline for Iran to declare it was not building nuclear weapons.
The head of the IAEA, Mohammad el-Baradei, said Iran’s report, submitted October 23, appeared to be comprehensive, though investigations would continue.
Mr el-Baradei said some “fine-tuning” had to take place before the nuclear weapons watchdog could rest easy.
Iran sits alongside pre-war Iraq and reclusive communist state North Korea on US President George W Bush’s “axis of evil.”
According to the Russian Atomic Energy, Iran will confirm next week that it will permit UN inspectors to examine imported uranium enrichment machinery parts to determine the origin of the traces of weapons-grade uranium found earlier this year.
Iran also confirmed it would stop uranium enrichment and sign the Additional Protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Tehran had previously prevaricated on allowing on the spot inspections of its nuclear sites.
